Students from the “Re-Mix Culture” course (led by Szu-Han Ho, UNM Department of Art & Gabriela Durán Barraza, Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez Visual Arts Department) engaged in a semester-long partnership centered on the concept of the remix as a strategy for collaboration and creating shared dialogue between the cities of Albuquerque, USA and Cd. Juárez, Mexico.

In March, UNM students traveled to Juárez to collaboratively produce the first public event “Alburez,” which took place in downtown Juárez at the Centro Municipal de las Artes on Thursday, March 12, 2015. UACJ students traveled to Albuquerque for the final public video/performance event, “ALBUREZ Returns!” a VJ event with projections on the west wall of the historic KiMo Theatre, featuring music by DJ cp_squared.

The title “Alburez" is a mash-up of the names of our two cities, Albuquerque and Juárez. An “albur” in Spanish refers to a double entendre, chance, or fate.

The program was made possible by the US Embassy/GEO Global Studies Grant, UNM College of Fine Arts Dean’s Travel Grant, UNM Teaching Allocation Grant, and Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez.
