2012

Performance on September 22, 2012 for ISEA2012: Machine Wilderness by Szu-Han Ho and the Electric Ensemble

An acoustic relationship between the inside and the outside of the museum gallery is produced in real time. In the atrium outside of the museum, musicians can be heard practicing, students chattering, and audiences shuffling. Sounds from the atrium are processed and mixed with recordings of an unaccompanied vocalist, borrowed from the archive of J.D. Robb Field Recordings (1944-1979). The songs, chosen for their connection to the history of this region, consist of a simple and solemn melody. Audiences hear the atrium sounds woven into the melody to produce a constantly changing soundscape.
