A musical collaboration with the members of the Oakdale Covenant Church Choir of Chicago. The piece takes the call and response choral style found in African American churches to perform a dialogue between reason and melancholy. Under the conductor’s leadership, the singers interpret a scene adapted from Daniel Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe, in which the self-reliant individual meditates upon his isolation.
